Since its inception in 1919, Cummins has been dedicated to the development and production of marine diesel engines. In 1925, the company introduced the first fully enclosed marine diesel engine to the market. By the 1970s, Cummins had established a strong market presence with its V903, V504, and 555 series marine diesel engines. The 1980s saw the introduction of B and C series diesel engines by Cummins. In 1993, Marine Engine headquarters relocated to Charlestown, South Carolina, leading to continuous advancements in marine engine sales. By 1998, ships worldwide were operating with four Cummins marine diesel generators.
Cummins' marine diesel generator sets are manufactured in strict compliance with major international classification societies' standards and tailored for various ship types. These professional generator sets boast robust design, low vibration and noise levels, smooth operation efficiency as well as unique features such as inline six cylinders with four strokes and four valves per cylinder configuration for optimal performance. Additionally, they incorporate full intake systems along with forced water cooling that minimizes thermal radiation while ensuring exceptional functionality. Furthermore,Cummins' patented PT fuel system is integrated into their marine diesel generator set designs which also include an innovative overspeed protection device along with a simplified low-pressure oil pipeline setup resulting in reduced failure rates coupled with high reliability due to high-pressure injection facilitating complete combustion.
Applications:
Cummins Marine diesel generator set has the characteristics of small deformation and good rigidity. The valve mechanism adopts four valve mechanism, that is, each cylinder has 2 intake valves and 2 exhaust valves, which improves the intake efficiency. The valve is driven by the camshaft, which controls the opening and closing sequence of the valve and also controls the injection time of the PT fuel system. These characteristics make Cummins Marine diesel generator sets have efficient and stable performance, and can meet the power needs of ships in various environments.
